Hannah Aelvoet

With a vision for building something As Chair of Labo XIX&XX, Hannah leads with a dual perspective as both musicologist and pianist. Her research explores how storytelling traditions shaped compositional practices, particularly in the work of Peter Benoit, offering fresh insights for historically informed performance today.

Stijn Saveniers Phd

A conductor, researcher, and coach, Stijn has been part of Labo XIX&XX since 2015. Having completed his PhD in 2025, he brings practical artistic experience to theoretical questions about heritage, performance, and the evolution of musical traditions.

Anne Pustlauk PhD

Specializing in the transverse flute's history, Anne maintains an extensive database documenting chamber music repertoire from 1790–1850. Her research combines performance practice with archival investigation, bringing forgotten flute works back to life through both scholarship and concert performance.

Diederik Glorieux

As a research assistant since 2023, Diederik leads the project preserving composer Wim Henderickx's legacy. Working at the intersection of cataloguing, preservation, and artistic creation, he ensures that important musical histories remain accessible for future research and performance.

Isabel Voets

Researcher

Bringing journalistic expertise to artistic research, Isabel combines her work as a radio-maker for Klara with her research in the Labo XIX&XX collective. Her background in Word Art enables her to translate complex musical heritage into compelling narratives for broader audiences.

Matthijs de Ridder PhD

Researcher

A writer and literary critic with a doctorate from the University of Antwerp, Matthijs contributes critical perspective to the research collective. His background in Dutch literature enriches the group's exploration of texts, libretti, and the cultural narratives embedded in nineteenth-century Flemish performance.

Marie-Louise Wundling

Researcher & PhD Student

A freelance cellist and docARTES PhD candidate at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp since 2025, Marie-Louise explores the profound connection between the human voice and the cello. Her research investigates "vocality" as a core principle of Romantic instrumental playing, bringing a unique perspective to the revival of 19th-century musical traditions.

Pauline Lebbe

Researcher

With a deep commitment to Belgian musical heritage, Pauline brings both scholarly rigor and artistic practice to her research. As coordinator of Labo XIX&XX from 2020 to 2025, she guided projects exploring nineteenth-century songs and performance traditions, bridging the gap between archival discovery and live interpretation.

Jan Sanen

Researcher

An active chamber musician, Jan performs and improvises in a range of ensembles, for which he also composes new music.

He joins LABO XIX&XX as of September 2026.

Nicholas Cornia

A Roman-born musician-researcher who came to Classical Singing and Music Theory by way of Mathematics, Physics and informatics, Nicholas Cornia brings a rare scientific-artistic dual perspective to his work. Since 2022 he has been principal investigator of the FAAM project at LABO XIX&XX, and since 2023 he has also been a research assistant at the Orpheus Instituut, working on the Resounding Libraries heritage project.
