Marie-Louise Wundling is a freelance cellist based in Cologne, moving fluently between contemporary, classical and baroque music. She performs with ensembles including Concerto Köln, Spira Mirabilis, Dresdner Festspielorchester, Gürzenich Orchester Köln and Folkwang Kammerorchester, and organises her own chamber music projects. After studying modern cello in Salzburg, Zürich and Essen, she completed a master's in historical performance practice with Prof. Werner Matzke in Trossingen, graduating with distinction.

Having grown up in a family of musicians, she experiences chamber music as a way of communicating and connecting with others. She is a member of Ensemble Inbetween, a group rooted in historical performance practice that explores nineteenth- and twentieth-century repertoire, and of the Swiss Prospero Consort, which combines baroque and contemporary works in its programmes.

Collaboration across disciplines is a lasting source of inspiration: she works with the theatre company Familie Flöz, develops sound experiments with sculptor and electronic musician Tina Tonagel, and has studied philosophy for several semesters. Her participation in Concerto Köln's WagnerLesarten research project, under Kent Nagano and Shunske Sato, proved formative – engaging with the performance practice of late-Romantic orchestral music laid the ground for her ongoing search for a flexible, singing sound in the Romantic cello repertoire, grounded in historical means of expression.
