Pauline Lebbe
Soprano Pauline Lebbe renounced a lawyer's career to pursue her dreams and follow cello and singing studies.
She has been exploring Belgian art song since her conservatory studies in Leuven, with a master’s thesis scrutinizing the interfaces between symbolist literature and Belgian mélodie. In September 2017, she joined the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp as a researcher and she coordinated the research unit Labo XIX&XX from 2020 to 2025.
There, she further broadened her view on the endless world of art song in the belle époque and the first decades of the 20th century, this rich mosaic of romanticism, modernism, impressionism, expressionism, futurism and avant-garde. Specific research topics include Flemish women composers and magic lantern shows, and she participated in projects about music modernism and the composer Raymond Moulaert.
She is currently investigating the domestic music practice in the 19th century. Besides song repertoire, Pauline's practice includes oratorio and opera. She is a member of several vocal ensembles and regularly participates in opera productions at La Monnaie Theatre and Midsummer Mozartiade in Brussels.
