Infinizio. The graphic score as a tool in the performance of the music of Wim Henderickx.

In several Henderickx works –Colors (2014), Revelations (2016), the wind orchestra version of Missa Brevis (2017) and Infinizio (2017) – traditional notation is expanded with elements inviting interpretation and improvisation. Within this controlled aleatoric practice, freedom and structure find balance: performers make personal choices inside a clearly defined framework. Such an approach challenges both notation and performance, often requiring further information to convey the composer's intentions. Building on his long collaboration with Henderickx, Glorieux documents this knowledge and develops practical tools for professional and other performers alike.

Infinizio (2017) is the central case study. Originally for piano, its flexible structure suits reinterpretation by other instruments, ensembles and voices. Together with Henderickx, Glorieux explored how a graphic representation of the score might open new possibilities, including for children and those without traditional music-reading skills. The project investigates how a conventional score can become a graphic one, clarifying its structure and widening access. Results are tested through performances involving diverse musicians, from beginners to professionals.

Ultimately, the project reframes scores not as fixed end products, but as invitations to interpretation, dialogue and new musical experience.
